I-696, Fairchild Road construction to begin this week
Two more highway construction projects will close two more significant roads this week in Warren and eastern Oakland County and in Macomb Township.
Westbound I-696 will be closed from I-75 to Mound Road from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. The closure will enable work crews to repair pavement along the freeway, said Rob Morosi, spokesman for the Michigan Department of Transportation.
MDOT officials have posted a detour for westbound I-696 traffic for the weekend closure. The detour will take drivers south on Mound Road to Eight Mile Road, west to northbound I-75 and back to westbound I-696.
In preparation for the work on westbound I-696, crews also will shut down multiple lanes of the freeway from Mound Road to Woodward Avenue between the hours of 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. beginning Monday night.
During those overnight closures, one lane will stay open from Mound to Woodward until the total closure Friday night, Morosi said.By FRANK DEFRANK email@example.com; @fdefrank
